Welcome back to another exciting and busy term.
Our learning focus is The Rainforest and we will be undertaking a range of activities across the curriculum linked to this subject.
We also have May Day, Sports Day and a Virtual visit to look forward to.

We started our Literacy work by writing poems about things that you might find in a rainforest. Our poems had to include descriptive language and similes.

Wild Night Out!
Last week Class 3 had our Wild Night Out! We took part in moorland walking, preparing an alpine themed meal, decorating our rooms and sound hunts. We even had a night-time walk to discover nocturnal animals. We had a great time on our first adventure away from home and can't wait for next year!
Our trip to Carswell Farm to learn about Spring.
We visited Carswell Farm to learn all about farming during Spring time. First we went to the dairy where we saw new-born calves and learnt how cows are milked. Then we took part in a rotation of activities which included identifying trees and making bark rubbings, planting seeds, collecting eggs and investigating creatures in log piles. After lunch, we made soil into paints and used them to create pictures. We had a great time!
Spring Term 2017
Welcome back everyone! We hope you have had a fabulous Christmas holiday and are ready for a busy Spring term. Our topics are Our Wonderful World and in Science we will be learning about rocks. This term much of our learning will be linked to our Class production. More information about this will follow....
Autumn Term 2016
Welcome back everyone to an exciting Autumn term! We are a Year 3 Class and our teachers are Mrs Dixon and Mrs Mckinnon. Our learning enquiry this term is the Ancient Romans. Visit us later on in the term to find out more!
Today we had a visit from a Roman soldier. We were able to look at artefacts and learn about life in the Iron Age before the Romans came. We then re-enacted a Roman battle.
Our trip to Carswell Farm
During our trip, we learnt about the seasons and harvest. We took part in a scavenger hunt for Autumn colours, baked bread and completed various research and art activities based on hedgehogs. We also made hedgehog houses which we placed in different places around the farm and will check on them when we next visit.
It's the summer term and we have an exciting term ahead. We had to postpone our Jungle Book performance until the 21st April due to illness, but take a look at the photos below, the children did a fantastic performance that made all the teachers, parents and friends burst with pride!
This term our learning enquiry is based on Dinosaurs & Fossils, we will also be learning about plants in science and we are taking part in a national investigation to see whether 'rocket' seeds that have been into Space with Tim Peake will grow any differently to those that have not! We will be covering poetry, fiction and non-fiction in literacy and multiplicative reasoning and number sense in maths. In PE we will be learning tennis skills as well as dancing through Maypole dancing. In art we will be using stenciling to create fossils and modroc to make dinosaur footprints. In RE we will be learning about religion in the community.

We are back, and what an exciting term the Spring term 2016 is going to be! In science we will be learning all about space exploration, and keeping a close eye on the adventures of Tim Peake. Our topic for the term is The Indus Valley, we will be looking at where and when The Indus Valley civilisation thrived, make pinch and coil pots, clay figurines and investigate theories of why the civilisation came to end. In literacy we have been focusing on Myths and Legends and studying the text Beowulf. We will also be learning about list poems and kennings, completing a non-chronological report and a recount. In ICT we will be learning about programming through Kodu. Our maths focus to start the term is 'number sense', we will be looking at place value including decimals,comparing and ordering numbers, addition and subtraction and looking at the most efficient methods to use. We will end the Spring term with a class production of The Jungle Book, we will be studying the playscript, include a dance (this forms part of our PE), make props in art and sing (including solo's)!
Welcome to Class 3, Autumn Term 2015. In Class 3 this academic year we have 30 children. Our class teachers are Mrs Dixon and Mrs Naldrett, we also have Mrs Eason as our teaching assistant.
We have had such a busy start to the year, our topic this term is 'Mountains, Rivers and Coasts'. In literacy we have completed a 'recount' of our summer holiday, an 'explanation text' on the different types of mountains, a fable and we are currently completing a poetry block where we will write an image poem about a rivers journey. In maths we kick started the term with a week of 'Inspirational maths' and we have completed 'number sense' where we have linked our learning to the 'Rugby World Cup' and our topic work on rivers. In PE we have been learning about multi-skills and have covered football and we are currently learning about hockey. In science we have been learning about forces and magnets and in RE about 'Inspiration'. In art we have been looking at Monet's paintings of rivers and looking at different paint brush techniques. We also have a big DT project coming up in December where we will be making bridges! Watch this space!

As part of our homework for the Autumn term, Class 3 were set the challenge of researching the differences between rich and poor Victorians. The children were allowed to be creative in how they presented their learning.

Each class at Newton Ferrers takes part in leading a class assembly. It was Class 3 and 4's turn to do this for our Harvest Celebration. Class 3 completed a 'Harvest Shuffle' where some children held up cards for the word 'Harvest' and they shuffled around to spell words which were within the word 'Harvest' and are important at harvest time.
