Collective Worship

Collective Worship is a statutory requirement for all schools in England and Wales.

At Newton Ferrers C of E Primary School,

Collective Worship is so much more than this.

It is a time where the school family meets together, learns together, reflects together, a time within which children and staff are given a time to be still, to engage and if they feel called, respond.

The ethos behind all of our worship is to be:  Inclusive Invitational and Inspiring

Inclusive – we are inclusive to our whole school community no matter what faith. We plan moments for discussion allowing children to bring their own experiences to worship.

Invitational - Parents, pupils and adults can expect to encounter worship that is consistently invitational. Pupils and adults should always only be invited to pray if they wish to do so and should be invited to pray in their own way.

Inspiring - should enable pupils and adults to ask big questions about who we are and why we do what we do. It should motivate pupils and adults into action, into thinking differently, and into reflecting on their and the wider community’s behaviour and actions.

We do not use a specific scheme or resource to underpin our collective worship. We work with members of our church community to ensure that the content of our worship is linked with biblical stories.

Structure:

Each time we gather the format should be as follows:

Welcome, Reflection, Connecting to the Bible or a diverse story, response and a prayer.

Collective worship generally takes place in our school hall and follows the following format:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

School Values and British Value through Current affairs.

We use this time to reflect on what is happening in our school community, our personal growth and school values.

Singing

We use this time to sing songs linked to the season and time of the year.

Being me and being inclusive.

We use this time to share events happening in the school to raise awareness of inclusivity and diversity.

Celebration

We recognise children for displaying the school values.

All families are invited and sit together to celebrate.

Children from the ethos group lead aspects of worship within our school through setting up the room and sharing prayers that have been written for sharing in the values worship session.

The focus for our values worship is:

Autumn 1: Collaboration

Autumn 2: Respect

Spring 1: Perseverance

Spring 2: Creativity

Summer 1: Peace

Summer 2: Confidence

Love is a theme which runs through all terms and binds our assemblies together.
