Welcome to Revelstoke Class, 2017 - 2018

We are a Year 6 class.

Our teacher is Mrs Townsend and our L.S.A. is Mrs Eason.

This term we are learning about World War II.

Soon we will have some exciting learning to share with you, including our trips to Cobbaton Combat Museum and Carswell Farm.

World War II day

Today we have enjoyed lots of fun activities linked to WWII. We shared stories our grandparents have told us, made carrot cookies, tried our hands at finer knitting and played pencil and paper games, such as Battleships and Hangman. We even had a couple of air-raids! In the afternoon, Zeb's grandad came to speak to us about his wartime experiences and we learnt about VE day.

PE: gymnastics

This term we are developing our gymnastics skills by learning how to combine counter-balance and counter-tension within a sequence, linking our balances with smooth transitions.

WWII talk by Mr Tew

Last Wednesday, Mr Tew kindly brought some of his collection of WWII artefacts into Revelstoke Class. We found out lots of interesting facts about military equipment that we hadn't yet discovered. The whole class would like to extend a big thank you to Mr and Mrs Tew for giving up their afternoon to speak to us: we really appreciate it.

Our Autumn term visit to Carswell farm

Junior Life Skills at Ivybridge Leisure Centre

We took part in nine workshops and learnt many skills which we will be able to use to keep ourselves safe in potentially dangerous situations, for example how to swim out of a rip current and the importance of effective hand washing.

Interviewing a WWII evacuee

Mr Fenner kindly came into class to talk to us about his experiences as a WWII evacuee. He brought lots of artefacts to show us and it gave us the opportunity to interview someone who was actually there at the time. Thank you Mr Fenner, we learnt a huge amount and your stories were very interesting.

Cobbaton Combat Museum

During our visit we saw an incredible collection of World War II memorabilia, both military and relating to the 'Home Front'. We had a fantastic day and have been inspired in many different ways to broaden and deepen our learning about the era.

In Art this term, we are learning about relief printing. We will be designing our own WWII propaganda posters, then printing part of the image with a lino-cut print of our own design.

Here we are practising our printing techniques with some ready-made printing stamps.
