Forest Schools

This term, we will be learning to build a fire in small groups and then using our DT skills to plan, prepare and cook food on it! Keep checking back for photographs and updates on how we are getting on!

Week 1:

We made excellent use of our new Forest School classroom as it poured down with rain for the entire session! Undeterred, the children worked hard to collect all of the resources they needed to create a fire, re-visiting learning from previous years. We then lit a class fire and toasted apples and marshmellows!

Week 2

With the weather much improved, the children were able to collect the resources to build and light their own small group fires. They roasted apples with sugar to make toffee apples!

Week 3

This week we were much slicker at collecting, making and lighting our fires, showing excellent progress, and enabling us to bake (and eat) lemon cakes!

Whole day Forest School

We had another wild and windy forest school session today! We built fires and cooked a range of culinary delights: sweet and savoury breads, cheesy nachos and smores! We also began planting the new saplings for the forest and created seed bombs to help dispersal.

Harry Potter Day

As inspiration for our up-coming recount writing, we held a KS2 Harry Potter day! The children came to school dressed-up and ready for a day at Hogwarts. First, they were placed into houses by the sorting hat and then they took part in a variety of magical lessons: Care of Magical Creatures, Quidditch, Charms and Potions. Check back here in a few weeks to read about the events of the day in more detail in our recount writing!

Year 5 Carswell Farm

We went to Carswell Farm to take part in an autumn forage and learn about farming through history. We collected blackberries, sloes, hawthorns and rose-hips and made a cordial as well as a range of leaves to make salads and tea! We enjoyed eating the 'fruits of our labour'!
