At Newton Ferrers Primary School, we aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that promotes challenge, exploration, adventure and a lifelong love of learning. We believe that Christian principles underpin all of our work with the children, and these values are woven throughout our curriculum and daily interactions: creativity, respect, peace, perseverance, collaboration and confidence.
We are a Reception class and have high aspirations for every child’s learning and development. We follow the statutory EYFS Framework and use Development Matters and our skills progression documents to support planning and assessment. Our curriculum is carefully designed to provide a balance of adult-led teaching and child-initiated learning, ensuring children make progress across all areas of learning while developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for future success.
Play is an integral part of learning and lies at the heart of our Early Years curriculum. Through high-quality continuous provision and carefully planned learning opportunities, children are encouraged to explore, investigate, create and problem-solve. Adults work alongside children, extending and enriching their learning through purposeful and high-quality interactions, questioning and modelling. We believe that a balance of adult-directed learning and uninterrupted child-led play provides the best outcomes for our pupils.
We strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, safe and supported. Our aim is for children to become confident, independent learners who believe in themselves, develop positive relationships with others and approach new experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm. Through our curriculum, we support children to become resilient, caring and active members of their community, ready for the next stage of their education.
